ICELANDIC CHOREOGRAPHER & PERFORMANCE ARTIST BASED IN SWITZERLAND

Frank Fannar Pedersen began his dance education at the age of 7, at the National Ballet School of Iceland. Before graduating in 2008, he was a guest student at the Finnish National Ballet School in Helsinki in 2006. 

 

His professional career started with an apprenticeship with Iceland Dance Company, afterwards moving to Barcelona to dance for IT Dansa under the artistic direction of Catherine Allard. 

In 2011, he was hired as a soloist for Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden in Germany led by Stephan Thoss.

Since 2014, he is currently employed by Ballet Theater Basel in Switzerland, under the direction of Richard Wherlock.

Pedersen has performed work by choreographers such as Jiři Kylián, Ohad Naharin, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Hofesh Shechter, Johan Inger, Alexander Ekman, Sharon Eyal, Stijn Celis, Ed Wubbe, Richard Wherlock & Stephan Thoss, among others.

His choreographic career commenced in 2012 and consists of commissioned work for companies such as National Theater Mannheim, Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Iceland Dance Company and Ballet Theater Basel.

Pedersen participated in the Hannover Choreographic Competition, Tanzplatform Bern, Ég býð mig fram Festival in Iceland, Nordic Cool in the US and Salisbury International Arts Festival in the UK.

Besides his work in theatre, he has created site-specific performances, installations and work for museums such as Kunstmuseum Basel, as well as video work such as "Mate", "Physical Disdancing" and "Javier".

In 2013, he was nominated for dance production of the year at Gríman, Icelandic National Theatre Awards and in 2015, he was recipient of the "Hoffnungsträger des Jahres" by Jahrbuch Tanz - theater and critic association for German speaking countries.
